Talented Group’s MD, Simon Murphy, was hand-picked by Andrey and non-exec Amit Shafrir to build a senior management team that could guide Badoo through a period of rapid expansion. The assignment comprised 12 Director- and VP-level positions across marketing, product, mobile, operations, business development, billing, engineering and customer service.</p>
<p>At the time, most of Badoo’s user base was outside the UK, making it virtually unknown within the country. The company needed to hire fast to support its expansion, but without compromising on executive quality. Ideally, they wanted people from prestigious internet brands like Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Amazon and Ebay.
We assigned a dedicated three-person project team to Badoo. Over the four-month assignment, we identified an international talent pool of around 1000 individuals, though a combination of targeted headhunting and online advertising as required. We carried out more than 200 telephone and over 100 face-to-face interviews. Badoo’s board and founder met around 75 individuals in person.
Badoo eventually hired 14 people, all drawn from the leading internet brands they’d requested. All 14 recruits were top-10% candidates in their respective functional areas.
